With a little help from my friends

Update-Sunday Dec 2nd-Thank you one and all for giving me some great ideas. I hope to use the stamp soon and look forward to posting here what I decide to do first. I used the computer random number to select one person to send the stamp to...and the winner is Cheryl/cakvd. I will get it ready this afternoon so all I need is an address.

I received this stamp with a recent order. Nice stamp but I am not sure how to use it. The brown card stock is regular 4.25x5.5 size so you can see it a large image with not a lot of space to be very creative. So as I ponder, I would appreciate your added suggestions on how to use it. If you leave me a comment with your idea I will be happy to include you in a random drawing for the unmounted stamp of this santa image. I will close to make the drawing on Sunday morning, Dec 2. Thanks for your help!

  1. Well let's see. You could trim him out after stamping him, and he looks like he's just about to dive into a cake so he might be perfect for a birthday card! Or do some layering and let some sentiments or embellies overlap the empty white spaces. Or if you stamp him on patterned paper or stamp a bkd for him, then he won't look quite so stark and in the middle of a big white rectangle. HTH!

  2. I was thinking about masking him after stamping and then putting some pine boughs around him. The raccoons here are always running up into the pine trees. I think it's the dog's fault! LOL...don't enter me in the contest since I have that lovely santa :)

Oh, or you could mask it and then brayer over some tonal inks to make the background. I love the stamp.

  3. Nice image, but he kind of looks like he's suspended in the air. Needs some kind of 'grounding'. Perhaps you could create something like the square that around the pine cone image on your card that further down on your Blog.

Something that frames him, or makes it appear that he's sitting on the ground, or a tree stump... not sure if you have stamps like that--grass, rocks, shrubbery, small trees for a background etc.

  4. I think he needs either a garbage can using silver embossing powder, or something he can hold in his paws so that he appears to be examining the item, maybe a big, sparkly bauble or crystal.

  5. You could cut him out and lay him on a background of earthy things. I see trees, pinecones or maybe just some pine boughs. I think he definitely needs some earthy things.

  6. I agree with the others Jan I think you need to build a scene around him, trees in the background... water's edge or something in the foreground. I have also seen some neat paper piecing with animals so that they can look 3-D as well.

    Good luck with it!

  7. I also think a background around him would be good. Another cute idea would be to use him on your envie, like on the corner. I think he would make a good little decoration for that.

  8. I could totally see this on a scrapbook page about camping. Or add some die cuts of a fish and make a man's card. I love the santa image...it would be great on my daughter's scrapbook page with Santa!!
    Thanks!

  9. gosh--that's a tough one! Such a cute image, though! My idea is to use just part of the image, such as his face or maybe his tail will make a great coonskin hat, LOL!

It would also be cute to do a tree or scene on the front of the card with a circle hole to see his face and when you open it you can see the whole racoon!

  10. When I see him I think of him grabbing a holiday ornament. I also think he needs to be grounded by something.

  11. I agreee with some of the others about using part of the image. I saw a Santa card recently on my friend Lori's blog.... this might give you an idea:

  12. My suggest would be:
To add some trees around him.
Only stamp part of him. Make him coming out of a barrel, or out of the trees.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks for a chance.

  13. Well it is a super cute image! I would emboss him on watercolor paper and paint him in! He is beautiful to have on the front of card without anything else!

  14. I would put some pines behind him and then some sticks or water on the side for a really nice back to nature card. I love animal stamps (I have about 15 beavers so far and tons of giraffes and bears) And I am not even counting the HOuse MOuse ones because they are my absolute favs.

  15. I have an Evergreen tree punch and could visualize him sitting amoungst the evergreens. Also - a Cuttlebug swirled background, rubbed with brown and green ink, would make a great setting for the little guy.

    He's so cute.

  16. "Let Heaven and Nature Sing" always comes to mind when I see wildlife images. "All Creatures, great and small"

I think this sweet raccoon would make a wonderful winter/holiday focal point by adding holly and berries and boughs.

    Just pondering and thinking outloud.........

  19. Oh I think he's cute. I have to agree that he needs some trees around him...you could always say "Do I smell a birthday?" or something like that. Good luck. I am bookmarking you so I can check back and see what you come up with :)
