Bubble, bubbles-you can't just stop with one

Last month I signed on to an ATC swap hosted by Dymphie from the Netherlands. The task was to use bubble backgrounds she had created. Unfortunately neither of the 2 sets sent to me have arrived yet. To keep my commitment of sending 1 to an assigned person I decided I needed to make some bubble backgrounds myself. Dymphie kindly shared that she used Trish Bayley’s bubble tutorial: http://trishbayley.com/rubberwaffle/bubbleback.html Dymphie noted that she added an iridescent medium to some of the bubble mixtures. That caught my eye as another variation of the glimmer, shimmer effect some of us have been creating using distress reinkers for backrounds.

For my bubble backgrounds I started out with distress reinkers and a tad of perfect pearls which resulted in a very light background as you can see in the moose card below. I switched to using leftover metallic acrylic paint and it came out great. I am not sure if it is because I was using old paint but the quantities used in the recipe of water, soap, paint varied considerably from one color to the next. I did find that enough paint needs to be added so it can be seen on the surface of the bubbles. The bubble mixture in this photo needs more paint added.

While your making the slight mess of this project it is very easy to make some extras for future use. My first card with a bubble background is a birthday card made to meet Tami’s brown, green, blue color challenge.
If you try making some bubble backgrounds I bet you can't make just one!

  1. Jan, I LOOOOVE your bubbles! Mine always seemed to be resisted by the edges of the cardstock I used, yours are filled completely. Love the soft blue one too.
Now I'm still hoping the envelopes will turn up....
